Praying Salaat away from the Kaaba.
Q. To what extent is one allowed to perform Salaat away from the Kaaba? What should be done in the case in which a Masjid was erected away from the Kaaba?
A. Salaat performed in the direction of a Masjid erected more than forty five degrees away from the correct direction of Kabaa is not valid. The Musali in such a Masjid should turn to the correct direction so that their Salaat will be valid. Salaat performed in the direction of a Masjid erected less than forty five degrees away from the correct direction of the Kaaba is valid. The Musali can perform Salaat in the direction of such Masjid in order to have a uniform direction in all Salaat as well as unity among the Musali. New Masjid must be erected according to the correct direction of the Kaaba and not as the old Masjid built away from the correct direction of the Kabaa.
