Serving Alcohol as part of Job.
Q. There are several brothers here from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and other countries, who work in the hotel industry. As a part of their job they are required to serve alcohol. They all know that they should avoid doing this but refusal to serve means they loose their job. However, one brother has made the niyat to perform Hajj. He wants to know if he could/should return to his job after he has performed the Hajj.
A. Doing a job which requires one to serve alcohol is totally Haraam (unlawful) in Islam. These brothers must search for other jobs in order to leave what they are doing. Inshaa Allah, Allah will provide something for them. As for the one who wishes to go for Hajj, he should not return to this job after he has performed Hajj.
