FATWA
Consuming products made from bones and feathers.
Q. Is it permissible to consume products manufactured from bones and feathers of animals which can be eaten?
A. The products manufactured from the bones of animals that can be eaten such as cows, goats etc. which have not been slaughtered according to the Islamic Shariat will not be permissible for consumption as it comes under the prohibition in the Holy Quraan: And do not eat that over which the name of Allah has not been pronounced. This is surely a sin. (Sura Inam, Verse 121)
Therefore the feathers of birds which can be eaten such as chickens, ducks, etc. which have not been slaughtered according to the Islamic Law will also come under this prohibition.
In order for it to be permissible for one to consume the products manufactured from the bones and feathers of animals which can be eaten, then such animals must be slaughtered according to the Islamic Shariah.
