The Qualities of Rasulullah (saw)
He does not practice oppression and violation
By Aalimah Nazima M. Khan
As we continue to strive to inculcate good qualities into our lives and to remove the bad qualities, we should not forget about the negative quality of oppressing and violating another Muslim.
The oppression of a believer is an injustice in the sight of Allah. To insult him and to violate him is also an injustice in the sight of Allah. Such actions are greatly disliked by Allah.
Allah (ST) says in Hadith Qudsi:
“My anger is so agitated against those who oppress another person who has no one for support except Me.”
Allah (ST) also says:
“Oh my servants! I have made oppression forbidden on My part, so do not oppress each other.”
The Prophet (SAW) spoke about the duas of that oppressed one saying:
“Beware from the curse of the oppressed one as there is no barrier between his dua and Allah.”
In other words, if a person who was unjustly wronged or abused or violated, raises his hands and makes dua to Allah against the oppressor, then that dua reaches Allah and there will be nothing to prevent that dua from reaching Allah.
The Prophet (SAW) also said:
“The dua of the offended person ascends through the clouds. And Allah responds to it saying: “By My Might and Sovereignty, I will give you victory, even after a while.”
My respected Muslims, we need to understand this clearly. If we have said or done anything to cause harm to our Muslim brother or sister, or to offend him or oppress him, then let us be aware of those narrations of our Rasool (SAW). If that person raises his or her hands in dua to Allah against us, there will be no barrier between that dua and Allah. Know well that such a dua will reach Allah, and know well that Allah will answer such duas, if not now, then eventually.
Would we like to know that because we caused harm and injury to our brother or sister, by means of our tongue or our actions, and then they supplicate against us to Allah and their duas are answered? Then what will be our condition?
Once our Nabi (SAW) asked his companions:
“Do you know who is a bankrupt person?”
The companions replied that a bankrupt person is that one who has no money or property.
The Prophet (SAW) explained that the bankrupt one from amongst My Ummah is that one who will come on the Day of Judgment with a good record of Salaat and fasting and Zakaat but, because he abused someone, or slandered someone, or usurped the goods of another person, or had killed someone or beaten yet another person, then all those oppressed persons will receive a part of the oppressor’s good deeds as compensation for such wrongs done.
And if his good deeds come to an end, then the wronged, oppressed person’s sins and misdeeds will be transformed from him to the oppressor and he, the wrongdoer, will be thrown into the hellfire.
None of us will like to stand before Allah on the Day of Qiyaamah, thinking that all is well because we used to pray and fast and pay our Zakaat etc. only to discover that because we used to abuse and harm others, all our good deeds will be taken away from us and given to the oppressed ones, and their sins will be removed from them and added to our sins. None of us would like that. But that is the reality of oppression.
The Prophet (SAW) said:
“Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed person.”
A companion asked: “ O messenger of Allah, I will help him if he is an oppressed person, but please, tell me, how am I to help him if he happens to be an oppressor?” The Prophet (SAW) answered, “Prevent him from doing injustice. Because preventing him from committing aggression is a help to him.”
As believers in Allah and his Rasool (SAW), let us not cause harm and injury to each other. Let us not oppress each other, whether it by the usage of our tongues or our actions.
Let us be cautious of what we say or do, since Allah will certainly take us to task and will punish us for causing injustice and oppression to others.
Let us strive to live such lives in which no one will raise his hands to Allah against us, but will instead, raise their hands in Dua for us.
Ameen.
