The Qualities of Rasulullah (saw)
Reconciliation amongst the Believers
By Aalimah Nazima M. Khan
In our efforts to improve ourselves, and to implement good qualities into our lives, let us strive to inculcate another important quality into our lives, and that is, we as believers should make effort to reconcile and make peace between the Muslim brothers and sisters.
The Muslim community is distinguished by the fact that it is such a community in which brotherhood prevails, a society that is filled with love, communication, understanding, tolerance and purity.
However, it is still a human society, and as such it cannot be entirely free of occasional disputes and conflicts which may arise from time to time. Islam encourages efforts made towards reconciliation whenever there is a dispute between brothers in Islam.
Allah says in the Holy Quran:
“If two parties among the believers fall into a quarrel, make peace between them, …. And be fair, for Allah loves those who are fair and just.” (Sura 49 Vs.9)
The society of believing men and women should be governed by justice, love and brotherhood, since Allah (ST) says:
“The believers are but a single brotherhood, so make peace and reconciliation between your two contending brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy.” (Sura 49 Vs.10)
The Prophet (SAW) has advised us that when we make efforts to reconcile two brothers who are upset with each other, we should say words which are good and which will create love between these two.
The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
“He is not a liar who reconciles between people by telling them good news or by saying something good.” (Bukhari)
Allah (ST) says:
“Whosoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily, to him will We give a new life, and life that is good and pure and we will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.” (Sura 16 Vs.97)
It is indeed a very virtuous action to create peace and to reunite two brothers who are in dispute with each other.
The believer should be keen to bring unity and happiness between brothers and sisters. Islam teaches us that the reward for that one who makes Muslims happy will be greatly rewarded by Allah (ST) on the Day of Resurrection.
The Prophet (SAW) said:
“Allah told me that you shall be so humble towards one another, that no one should boast to anyone else and no one should oppress anyone.”
If we have cut ties with relatives or have been angry with our Muslim brother or sister for some wrong which he or she may have done to us, then let us remember these advices of our Noble Prophet (SAW).
Let us be the humble one. Let us unite for the sake of Allah. Let us over look the faults and mistakes of others, especially since we are not free from faults or mistakes ourselves.
When we reconcile for the pleasure of Allah, we will be richly rewarded.
The Prophet (SAW) said:
“No one is humble for the sake of Allah, but Allah will raise him in status.”
May Allah accept all our efforts in His cause and may He raise us in His status.
Ameen.
