Don't You Fear the Hell Fire?
Authenticated by Hazrat Maulana Mufti Ahmed Khan Puri Saheb
Chief Mufti of Madrassa Jamia, Dahbel, India.
At present one grave habitual sin, which is blindly committed by this Ummah, is that of wearing the pants below the ankles. The grave injustice is that, instead of considering this to be a sin we do it by way of fashion. We feel ashamed to adopt the Sunnah of wearing the pants above the ankle. Have we realized "where this fashion will lead us to"?
Whatever warning Rasulullah (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) has said concerning this fashion is as follows:
- The person who keeps his pants below the ankle will go to Jahannam (The Hell-Fire) - (Bukhari Shareef, Vol. 2 pg. 861. Muslim Shareef, Vol. 2 pgs. 194 and 195. Nasaai Shareef, Vol. 2 pg. 298. Abu Dawood Shareef, pg. 566. Fath-ul-Baari, Vol. 10 pg 211.)
- Allah (Glorified and Praised) will not look at that person who keeps his pants below the ankle with mercy on the Day of Judgment (i.e. that person will be Cursed) - (Bukhari Shareef, Vol. 2 pg. 861. Muslim Shareef, Vol. 1 pg. 71. Tirmizi Shareef, Vol. 1 pg.303 Nasaai Shareef, Vol. 2 pg. 298. Abu Dawood Shareef, pg. 564.)
- A person had kept his pants below the ankle, Allah (Glorified and Praised) sank him into the earth and he will keep on sinking up to Judgement Day. - (Bukhari Shareef, Vol. 2 pg. 861. Muslim Shareef, Vol. 2 pg. 194. Nasaai Shareef, Vol. 2 pg.298.)
- The Namaaz of the person wearing the pants below the ankles will not be accepted. - (Abu Dawood Shareef, pg. 93.)
- Everyone is forgiven during the Shabe Baraat (The 15th Night of Shabaan) except a few people; One of them is he who keeps his trousers below the ankle. - (Bai Haqi - Kanzul Ummal Vol. 2 pg. 315)
- To keep the pants below the ankle is forbidden according to consensus of the Ummat. (Fath-ul-Baari, Vol. 10 pg 202.)
- There is a resemblance with ladies in keeping the pants below the ankle and it is Haraam to resemble the ladies. - (Fath-ul-Baari, Vol. 10 pg 216.).
- There is extravagance in keeping the pants below the ankle and to be extravagant is Haraam. - (Fath-ul-Baari, Vol. 10 pg 216.).
- There is a possibility that the garment will become unclean if we keep it below the ankle. - (Fath-ul-Baari, Vol. 10 pg 216.).
- This is such a sin that a person at all times walks with it.
Are we ready to be worthy of receiving so many threats mentioned above by adopting just one fashion? If not, then let us ask Allah for forgiveness from this Major sin and let us try to make our looks, appearance and dress according to that of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) so that we can say to Allah (Glorified and Praised) on the Day of Judgment that:
Tayray Mahboob Ki yaa rab Sha-baa-hat. Lay Kay Aayaa hun Haqeeqat oos ko too kar day Mayn soorat lay Kay Aayaa hun.
Translation: Oh Allah, I have merely imitated the pattern of your beloved Messenger (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him). Oh Allah, Turn it into a reality; I have only brought his resemblance.
N.B. - The Islamic rulings concerning wearing the garments below the ankle are the same for trousers, pants, Lungi and Arabian long Jubbah - (Abu Dawood Shareef, pg. 566. Fath-ul-Baari, Vol. 10 pg 215.)
